Not every student needs the same tutoring

A weekly lesson is not automatically the answer.

Students are often told to:

analyse more · develop the answer · improve vocabulary · practise more

But if they do not understand what that actually means, doing more of the same work will not fix it.

One student may need me to teach the skill directly.

Another may understand perfectly well but need regular writing and feedback.

Another may know what to do but simply is not doing it.

Those are different problems. So I treat them differently.

More than a weekly tutoring lesson

  • Support that changes with your child
Teaching, feedback, accountability and coaching can be combined depending on what they actually need.
  • Progress between lessons
I can mark work, give feedback and set the next task instead of waiting another week.
  • Regular accountability
Check-ins and reminders help make sure agreed practice actually gets done.
  • You can see what is happening
Parents can see completed work and receive clear updates on progress and problems.
  • The approach can change
If something is not working, I adjust the workload, teaching or frequency rather than simply continuing the same routine.
  • Flexible lesson frequency
Your child might need weekly teaching, more intensive support or fewer live classes with more work between them.
  • The same tutor throughout
I teach your child, review their work and communicate with you directly.
  • No middleman
Questions, scheduling and support come directly through me.

What support can actually look like

I change the support around the student.

Teaching
Clear explanations, modelling and practice when they genuinely need to be taught something.

Feedback
Writing assignments, marking, corrections and another attempt.

Accountability
Deadlines, check-ins and making sure agreed work actually gets done.

Coaching
Help with motivation, confidence, organisation and approaching difficult work.

Some students need a lesson every week.

Some need more.

Some may need fewer live lessons and more support between them.

I learn what works by watching what they actually do—and change the approach when necessary.

English doesn't have to feel like more school work

There is usually an angle that makes it click.

English is everywhere.

TikTok videos use structure and audience.

Jokes depend on language and timing.

News headlines persuade.

Adverts manipulate attention.

Arguments rely on evidence.

I use things students already understand to explain analysis, writing, structure and persuasion—then bring those skills back into GCSE English.

I want them to feel like they are discovering something, not simply completing another worksheet.

And these skills matter long after the GCSE is finished.

Who you're working with

I have been professionally tutoring since 2018.

I began as a qualified ESL teacher before moving increasingly into secondary and GCSE English tuition from 2021.

Since then, I have supported more than 30 students with their English studies and exams, both independently and through larger UK tutoring organisations.

I have worked with students from very different backgrounds and ability levels, including students with ADHD, autism and students who speak English as an additional language.

That experience taught me something important:

The explanation that works for one student may do absolutely nothing for another.

My job is to find the explanation—and the support—that works for the student in front of me.

What is Wisdom Bridge?

I originally named my services as my initials (ARP Tutoring). As time passed I saw that just tutoring for exam excellence wasn’t enough support and what I was doing went beyond just helping GCSEs. The importance of English as a skill was missed by so many students, and some parents, so I changed the name to Wisdom Bridge. The philosophy is what your child learns bridges them to something bigger than good to great exam grades.

GCSE English Language Support

  • Reading questions: Understand what the question wants, choose useful evidence and explain the writer’s choices without drifting away from the point.
  • Creative and transactional (non-fiction) writing: Move past the blank page. Build a plan. And control the structure, vocabulary and sentence choices — so they know what to write first and how to continue.
  • Timing: Practise when to plan, when to write and when to move on. So one difficult answer doesn’t take up too much time and leave them rushing to finish the rest.

GCSE English Literature Support

  • Set texts and poetry: Understand the text well enough to answer the question. Whether it’s Shakespeare, the nineteenth-century novel, a modern text, or poetry.
  • Quotations and analysis: Choose evidence that fits. Explain why it matters and take the idea further instead of stopping after the first point.
  • Essays: Build an argument that stays focused from the first paragraph to the last.

TESTIMONIALS

“Alex is a very good teacher. He is a very responsible, hard working, good communication and organized person. He also worked with my son last summer holidays to keep his English level. I would highly recommend him.”

AMY W.

“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and support our son’s English tutor, Alex, has shown over the past few years. From Year 9 all the way through to his GCSEs, Alex has provided consistent, patient, and professional guidance that has made a significant impact on our son’s academic progress.

His lessons were always well-structured and tailored to suit our son’s individual needs. He helped him improve not only in writing and literature analysis, but also in his overall confidence with the English language. Alex’s ability to explain complex ideas clearly and encourage independent thinking made all the difference.”

SOPHIE T.

“English is not my kids’ first language. We are lucky to have Mr. Postings to help them not even catch up their English and they are now able to achieve good assessment result at school.”

FAQs

How often will my child have lessons?

Typically students will have one class every week. Though some students benefit from one lesson a week, some need more intensive support, and others may need more work and feedback between lessons. I adjust this around what is actually helping and suitable for your child.

Depending on the student, I may set practice, review written work, give feedback, check progress or provide accountability. The aim is for improvement to continue outside the 50-minute lesson.

Yes. I can use current schoolwork, mock results, teacher feedback, set texts and upcoming assessments alongside work I create myself.

Yes. Support can cover either subject or both, including reading questions, writing, analysis, essays, set texts and exam preparation.

Yes. I build practice around your child’s current ability, weaknesses and interests. Where useful, I use topics and examples they already understand to make difficult English ideas easier to grasp.

You receive clear updates on what is improving, what still needs work and what I recommend next. Their shared workspace can also show completed tasks and ongoing work.

Your child can receive tasks and upload completed work through a shared Notion workspace. Where appropriate, parents can also see what has been assigned and completed. Full set-up and management assistance will be provided by myself.

I change it. That might mean changing how I explain something, the type of work being set, the amount of accountability or the frequency of live lessons.

Where their support plan includes it, yes. Short questions, feedback and check-ins can be handled between lessons rather than always waiting for the next class.

Yes. Where my schedule allows, support can temporarily become more intensive around important exams or mocks.

I support GCSE English Language and Literature across AQA, Eduqas, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and IGCSE. Send me your child’s exam board and current texts and I can confirm the relevant support.

Live lessons are currently £30 per 50 minutes. Payment can be arranged by invoice or direct debit. Any additional support arrangement will be explained clearly before you agree to it. Payments are made monthly in advance.

Yes. I have experience teaching students with different learning and communication needs, including EAL students and students with ADHD or autism. The approach is adjusted to the individual rather than assuming the same explanation will work for everyone.

Start with a message

Tell me why you’re looking for help now.

You do not need to book an assessment lesson to begin with.

Tell me:

  • your child’s year group;
  • what has been happening with English;
  • what made you start looking for help;
  • and, if you have one, send me a recent piece of their work.

I’ll tell you what I would look at first and whether I think I can help.

If live tuition makes sense, it is £30 per 50-minute lesson.

If I think they need something different, I’ll explain what I would recommend before you agree to anything.
