Is this for your child?

This support is for students who:

  • live in the UK
  • go to a UK school
  • speak another language at home
  • come from an international family
  • need help with English at school

Your child may not need basic English conversation lessons.

They may need help with the English used in school.

That means reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, literature and exam answers.

Why this is different from general English lessons

I started by teaching English as a foreign language.

I now mainly support students whose first language is not English and who need help with UK school English.

This matters.

A student may speak English well in daily life but still struggle with formal school writing.

They may understand an idea but not know how to write it clearly.

They may know the answer but not know how to start.

They may lose confidence because English at school feels confusing.

My job is to make the work clear.

What I help with

I support students with:

  • school English
  • reading comprehension
  • grammar
  • vocabulary
  • spelling and sentence control
  • creative writing
  • essay writing
  • English Literature
  • English Language
  • GCSE English answers
  • confidence in English lessons

Lessons are suitable for students from age 7 upwards.

This includes KS2, KS3 and GCSE students.

How lessons work

1. I find the problem

First, I look at what the student can already do.

Then I find what is making English difficult.

It might be vocabulary.
It might be grammar.
It might be reading.
It might be writing structure.
It might be GCSE exam answers.

2. I explain clearly

I teach the skill step by step.

I use simple explanations.

I show examples.

I check the student understands.

3. We practise and improve

The student practises with support.

I correct mistakes.

Then we build towards more confident and independent work.

GCSE English Language Support

  • Reading questions: Understand what the question wants, choose useful evidence and explain the writer’s choices without drifting away from the point.
  • Creative and transactional (non-fiction) writing: Move past the blank page. Build a plan. And control the structure, vocabulary and sentence choices — so they know what to write first and how to continue.
  • Timing: Practise when to plan, when to write and when to move on. So one difficult answer doesn’t take up too much time and leave them rushing to finish the rest.

GCSE English Literature Support

  • Set texts and poetry: Understand the text well enough to answer the question. Whether it’s Shakespeare, the nineteenth-century novel, a modern text, or poetry.
  • Quotations and analysis: Choose evidence that fits. Explain why it matters and take the idea further instead of stopping after the first point.
  • Essays: Build an argument that stays focused from the first paragraph to the last.

Recommended by international families

Many of my students come from families where English is not the first language. Parents often contact me because they want their child to feel more confident and do better with English at school.

“Alex is a very good teacher. He is a very responsible, hard working, good communication and organized person. He also worked with my son last summer holidays to keep his English level. I would highly recommend him.”

AMY W.

“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and support our son’s English tutor, Alex, has shown over the past few years. From Year 9 all the way through to his GCSEs, Alex has provided consistent, patient, and professional guidance that has made a significant impact on our son’s academic progress.

His lessons were always well-structured and tailored to suit our son’s individual needs. He helped him improve not only in writing and literature analysis, but also in his overall confidence with the English language. Alex’s ability to explain complex ideas clearly and encourage independent thinking made all the difference.”

SOPHIE T.

“English is not my kids’ first language. We are lucky to have Mr. Postings to help them not even catch up their English and they are now able to achieve good assessment result at school.”
